I needed to get some cycle miles in for my “Victory 80” fund raiser for RMA-The Royal Marines Charity. So I asked an old “Oppo” of mine Roger (Paddy) Ryan of RMA Taunton to lead the way over to the Manche region of Normandy, France (Cotentin) for 5 days of cycle-mania in May 25.
Roger was a Commando trained RN Photographer and spent most of his career serving with “Royal” We served together in 42 Cdo RM some 43 years ago. Needless to say, a fair few “Ditts” were spun along the way.
Following a 35 miles cycle from Poole to Barfleur, Normandy we settled into our Gite in the pretty village of Montfarville. The Gite is owned by RMA member Janet Sibley and her late husband and dearly missed RMA member Cliff.
Over the next 5 days we covered some 100 miles cycling and experienced some stunning coastal and country trails through amazing French countryside, resplendent in the sunshine our trip was blessed with.
A fantastic experience to hook-up with Roger again after so many years and it was inspiring to have his company cycling and a truly a collaborative effort between RMA’s Poole & Taunton!
Just two more donations of £5 each will lift my challenge into the top 25% of “Just-Giving” so please do not hold back! My “Victory 80” challenge will finish on Armed Forces Day 28 June 2025, so there is still plenty of time to donate and help raise funds for RMA-The Royal Marines Charity, thank you.
