The now re-named RBL National Garden of Remembrance (Arboretum as was) saw Poole join forces with Stoke-on-Trent Branch members to hold a joint service at the RM memorial.
The Reverend Ian Pethwick gave a most assertive address, the bugler played hauntingly, standards were lowered slowly and all present stood in solemn silence, heads bowed, before wreaths were laid. It is simply right that we should make every effort (a long slog of 4 hours by coach!) to pay our respects to all who this memorial represents.
The very extensive location and the plethora of other very remarkable memorials make a visit most worthwhile, particularly as entry is free to all ~ and the land train keeps the walking to a minimum! Our visitors from the USA were wholly impressed and stated that this place, though very different, is on another level than their own, such as Arlington.
