VETERANS SEMINAR 2026

Another great Veterans seminar was enjoyed on Friday the 12 June 2026 at the RNLI in Poole. The RMA had a table which included guests from across the spectrum of Royal Marines service. RMA Poole & District Branch members; Robert (Dinger) Bell, David Knight, Ted Ennis and guest John were there. Serving Royal Marines Officer Ryan McCormick brought mum and dad George and Linda and long-time RMA supporter Kenneth Grant and RM veteran guest John completed the line-up.

For the third year running organiser Steve (Griff) Griffiths curated an incredible line-up of speakers. These included; an insight into the role of signals intelligence in the run up to the war, Rear Admiral Chris Parry gave a jaw dropping insight – with much humour - into how to squeeze every ounce of capability (and more) out of a Wessex helicopter in operations from South Georgia to Fanning head. Charlie Threlfall RN gave a personal account of life in Bomb Alley whilst serving on HMS Broadsword. Dr Gordon Brooks RN Medical Officer recounted events on-board the SS Atlantic Conveyor at the time of the Exocet missile strikes. Talks on Air to Air refuelling and Rockhopper Oil & Gas operations in the Falkland Isles waters were followed by local Labour MP Jess Toale who tried to avoid too many political questions.

A treat for all in the afternoon was the appearance of Al Carns, hot-foot from Whitehall, where, Al joked he had nothing in particular to do! Al gave an impressive account of his involvement in the seven day ascent of Mount Everest. Following his talk Al mingled with attendees chatting and having photos taken – no doubt a relief from the rigors of Whitehall. The day was rounded off with a charity auction and raffle which reminds us of the great work Griff is doing to support veteran’s charities including the Royal Marines Charity.
