Poole “YOMP” Training Day #2

Writer: jobbersjobbers

Hi members, the weather was a bit miserable for my walk today - Tuesday 19th March. On a brighter note I had the company of RMA member Brian Maidman.

We started from the Sherford bridge area and walked to Ferry road, Sandbanks, an 8 mile trek. This was a truly lovely route through the forests and heath lands of; Wytch, Rempstone, Newton and Godlingston. This included a route to Goathorn via Ower farm.

We took a diversion to visit Ower Quay and the cottages there. It was a lovely water side spot with views across Poole harbour not usually seen. Unsurprisingly we decided to have our lunch here and imagine a time in the past when clay from the Blue pool was delivered to ships at this point via ancient tram-ways.

I must say a massive thank you to Brian for his company on today’s walk, but I’ve noticed he does walk a bit faster than me!! Mmmm, how am I going to slow him down? Answers on a post card please, lol.

The next training walk will be Wednesday 27th March where we will attempt the whole 10 miles route from Wareham to the Sandbanks ferry point.  (See above)

On a final note I must say a massive thank you to you RMA Poole members who, at our last meeting donated £110 cash and pledged a further £186. This is just so awesome and means our just giving page currently stands at £275.00. Thanks too to John Seymour for his sterling efforts to continue to promote our event more widely.
