Hi all you great members of our RMA in Poole and district! I want to reach out to you all to explain my fundraising plans for the summer and ask for your support.
Firstly, though let's reflect on some of the great fund raising that fuels our income. Peter Wenham’s monthly Meat draw raised nearly £900 last year, Emmett's Hill, Sharkey's auction, members donations, the Wareham Invasion, the Centenary club, outside supporters, not to mention the kindness of bereaved families who donate monies to our Branch, all contribute to keeping our bank balance healthy and ensure we can go on visits such as the HMS Queen Elizabeth, the Graspan parade and have our annual Corps Dinner.
This summer I am asking for your support in three initiatives to raise monies for the Royal Marines charity (RMA-TRMC)
800 Mile Cycle
I knew my days of yomping were numbered last year so between 24 March and 28 June this year I am aiming to cycle 800 miles as part of the celebrations for the 80th anniversary of VE Day. I have set up a “Just Giving” page on which you can donate. VE Day was such a euphoric day for Britain we really owe it to our veterans and families to support the 80th anniversary in the best way possible. There is more information on the “Just Giving” page so please do visit it even if it is just to have a read – but a £5 donation would be even better!!
ARMED FORCES DAY
I do not recall any media news of events in Poole in 2024 to mark this important day so I am determined that we will man our Royal Marines Charity gazebo in Falklands Square this year on Saturday 28 June. We will engage with the public, provide information about the Royal Marines charity work. Hopefully in the process we will make a collection for TRMC. We have 5 volunteers to man the gazebo so far. (Thank you to you members already) We really do need a few more so please let me or a committee member know if you are able to spare an hour or more on the 28th June.

FALKLAND SEMINAR
Finally the Falkland Seminar will take place on Friday 13 June this year. It is an all day seated event which includes many fascinating presentations on operations during Op Corporate delivered by the veterans who actually took part. A full lunch will be served as well as free wine and as much coffee, tea and biscuits you can consume. A portion of all funds raised at this event will be donated to RMA-TRMC. We have an RMA table. Whilst £100 is the price for a seat, recognition by the organisers that this might be a bit pricey for some RMA members means any sensible donation will still get you a seat at this unique and enjoyable event. Pull up a sandbag and swing the lamp!!
So there you have it members, lots of opportunities to get involved in raising funds for the Royal Marines Charity this summer and to help maintain RMA-PDB’s excellent record as a significant fund raiser for RMA-TRMC. Please get in touch with me or any committee member for more information and finally.... thanks for your membership and support of our great RMA in Poole....you make it a brilliant Association.
