I was pleased to attend WD 2022 at Fort William Lochaber in the Scottish Highlands last week and stay only 10 short miles from our 1942 ancestral home and the commando training grounds of Achnacarry Castle and the Commando Memorial at Spean Bridge that overlooks the commando training area.

This event was first run 6 years ago for some of our wounded and injured Royal Marines and their families which was organised by the Royal Marines Club* who took them to Otta in Norway where they were in turn supported by the Norwegian Military Veterans Charity SIOPS. Although originally hosted in Norway, the global pandemic required a rethink and in 2021 those selected families were hosted at Fort William for the first time. *The RM Club has since become a virtual branch of the RMA.
It should be mentioned that Ray Meed (RM Club) and his entire family along with Richie Puttock are instrumental in the planning and success of the event.
The event runs for 6 days with winter-themed activities, for adults and kids giving all a welcome break and a chance to make new friends in a safe and supported environment.

I was extremely lucky to be asked to volunteer my support to this event and I found this beneficial on many levels and have come away with a profound belief in what we the RMA-TRMC can achieve when we pull together.
