Falklands parade, 14 June 2026

The branch has spent a week reflecting, starting with DDay Last Saturday and the Falklands parade today, 14 June. Veterans and members from across Dorset and Poole assembled to pay tribute to the 255 members of the Falklands Task Force who did not return.

The solemn ceremony included heartfelt tributes as attendees gathered to honour the courage and sacrifice of those who served. Wreaths were laid, and a minute's silence was held, giving attendees a moment to contemplate the significant impact of the conflict.

Colonel Terry Canham (Late Royal Signals) DL took the opportunity to address an audience comprised of both veterans and members of the public, representing not only the county but also conveying the sentiments of His Majesty the King.

Colonel Terry Canham (Late Royal Signals) DL took the opportunity to address an audience comprised of both veterans and members of the public, representing not only the county but also conveying the sentiments of His Majesty the King.

In his speech, Colonel Canham started by acknowledging the presence of fellow veterans, many of whom had devoted substantial parts of their lives to military service and reflected on the significant sacrifices made by those who served in the armed forces, including the servicemen who departed from Poole and never returned. He read the names of those honoured today, highlighting the importance of remembering and honouring their contributions to the nation.

We cherish the memory of the Landing Craft Crew of Foxtrot Four:

- Colour Sergeant Brian Johnson, QGM

- Sergeant Ronald Rotheram

- Marine Anthony Rundle

- Marine Robert Griffin

- Chef Petty Officer Marine Engineer Artificer Alexander James.

- Acting Leading  Marine Engineer Mechanical

These men were tragically killed on June 8, 1982, and have been missing at sea for 44 years.

We also honour Sergeant Ian ‘Kiwi’ Hunt of the Special Boat Squadron, who lost his life on June 2 during an exchange of gunfire with an SAS patrol near the settlement of Teal, a tragic Blue on Blue incident between what is now sister regiments.

We remember Marine Engineer Mechanical, Stephen Ford, who tragically lost his life on May 22, 1982 when an Argentine aircraft attacked and sank HMS Ardent, resulting in the deaths of 22 sailors.
